Tip: Install an Egress Window Before You Finish Your Basement

Just a helpful tip from Jackson Egress Windows!

We all know basement finishing projects are a lot of work. As basement egress windows have only recently become popular, many people do not think about them when they start to finish the basement; and we often need to cut through finished drywall in order to access the foundation wall and install a new egress window system. If you are contemplating finishing your basement, we encourage you to install a basement egress window system at the very beginning.

If your basement is already finished and drywall installed, we can still install your egress window. However, we recommend you hire a contractor who specializes in drywall and interior trimming work to do the finishing work. The scope of our work is to ensure your egress window is properly installed and sealed to your basement foundation wall. In order to accomplish this, we will need to cut the drywall and remove any 2″ x “4 studs installed beneath the area where the new egress window needs to be installed.

Any drywall company or individual you hire will know how to attach new drywall or wood trim to our frame, which will follow industry standards for “roughing in” a new window.
